Ristretto recipe. How do you make a Ristretto?

Tommy Winberg

Ristretto is a highly concentrated coffee drink that is quite similar to a traditional espresso. Ristretto means "restricted" or "shrunk" in Italian, and it means that it is prepared with a smaller amount of water. The recipe is based on the basic espresso recipe, and is prepared in a similar way in an espresso machine, but with a shorter brewing time. How to do it:

  1. Grind the coffee finer than for a regular espresso. We recommend that you use a coffee grinder.
  2. Use about 8-10 grams of coffee. This yields approximately 20 ml of coffee.
  3. Brew the ristretto in the same way as a regular espresso, but stop the brewing time after just about 18-20 seconds. This results in a stronger and more intense taste.
